LINEAR PULSATION CHARACTERISTICS OF MIRA VARIABLE STARS
The linear adiabatic pulsation-periods of Mira variable stars have been derived. Approximately 2701[1]models were calculated for M = 0.7 MΘ to 2 MΘ stars with radii from 180 RΘ to 340 RΘ and luminosities from 2800 LΘ to 10,000 LΘ. The chemical composition of all models is (X,Z) = (0.7,0.02). From the result of this study, linear relations on Luminosity-Period-Mass relationship and luminosity-pe...
متن کاملGlobular Clusters and the Mira Period-Luminosity Relation
A globular cluster distance scale based on Hipparcos parallaxes of subdwarfs has been used to derive estimates of MK for cluster Miras, including one in the SMC globular cluster NGC121. These lead to a zero-point of the Mira infrared period-luminosity relation, PL(K), in good agreement with that derived from Hipparcos parallaxes of nearby field Miras. The mean of these two estimates together wi...
متن کاملAGB Variables and the Mira Period-Luminosity Relation
Published data for large amplitude asymptotic giant branch variables in the Large Magellanic Cloud are re-analysed to establish the constants for an infrared (K) periodluminosity relation of the form: MK = ρ[logP − 2.38]+ δ. A slope of ρ = −3.51± 0.20 and a zero point of δ = −7.15 ± 0.06 are found for oxygen-rich Miras (if a distance modulus of 18.39 ± 0.05 is used for the LMC). Assuming this s...
متن کاملEnvelope tomography of long-period variable stars⋆ III. Line-doubling frequency among Mira stars
This paper presents statistics of the line-doubling phenomenon in a sample of 81 long-period variable (LPV) stars of various periods, spectral types and brightness ranges. The set of observations consists of 315 highresolution optical spectra collected with the spectrograph ELODIE at the Haute-Provence Observatory, during 27 observing nights at one-month intervals and spanning two years. When c...
متن کاملNonlinear Properties of the Semiregular Variable Stars
We demonstrate how, with a purely empirical analysis of the irregular lightcurve data, one can extract a great deal of information about the stellar pulsation mechanism. An application to R Sct thus shows that the irregular lightcurve is the result of the nonlinear interaction of two highly nonadiabatic pulsation modes, namely a linearly unstable, low frequency mode, and the second mode that, a...
